The objective of the Encyclopédie scientifique et technique du tourisme et des loisirs (Scientific and Technical Encyclopaedia of Leisure and Tourism) is to produce a scientific summary of knowledge and issues related to tourism and to mobility systems.
The goals are to clarify how the field is approached by specialists in different disciplines, to encourage debate and work towards a body of shared concepts and ideas.
The target users are scientists (to promote mutual knowledge across disciplines and create a scientific corpus of multidisciplinary concepts/ideas), professionals (with a view to disseminating scientific research) and students (as an educational tool for sharing knowledge on tourism and on the means by which this knowledge is produced in the different disciplines).
This online pulication takes several formats (shorter texts in the form of conceptual articles, or longer more encyclopaedic versions reviewing a key topic in the field). The topics addressed include concepts, paradigms, themes, categories, places, regions, authors, actors and personalities.
An editorial committee coordinates the project (identification of the required words, relations with authors, submission to the scientific committee and online publication), and approves the proposals (words/author(s)).
The editorial committee calls upon GIS members to contribute on topics related to their work and their areas of specialisation. GIS members are the primary but not the exclusive authors. Interested GIS research lecturers can propose articles to the editorial committee. The editorial committee may call upon authors on specific issues where expertise is not available within the GIS. A specifications schedule defines the formats.
